Noel Sickles

SICKLES, NOEL - Life Magazine Editorial Illustration, WW2 air warfare - 1944-1945

Media Type: Ink Wash
Art Type: Strip Art
Artists: Noel Sickles All

Noel Sickles Life Magazine Editorial Illustration Original Art (c. 1940s). By 1940, Scorchy Smith's Noel Sickles had abandoned comics to move into freelance illustration. A striking example is this depiction of an airborne mission against a Nazi landing field. Sickles' knowledge of military hardware led to commissions from Life magazine to portray events to which the camera was not privy. Sickles also worked for Naval Intelligence, and for Newsmap, an Army-Navy venture. This ink-and-watercolor stunner, on Bristol board, has an overall size of 12.5" x 9". Signed at lower left. Very Good condition, with edge wear. From the Ray Skirsky Estate.
